Free Pattern Friday: Crochet Leaf

It’s Free Pattern Friday! While this is not a regularly scheduled weekly event, I do intend to do this a bit more often to practice my pattern-writing skills.

So, I’m back with another free, easy pattern that I hope you enjoy. If you would like to financially support my independent art practice, I have a PDF version of this pattern available in our Etsy store!

Many of my pieces include crochet flowers, leaves, and vines that I have sourced from free patterns online (with credit) or have completely free-formed. I have finally written out one of our freeform crochet patterns for a nicely shaped, wide leaf that I love using as an accent background for flowers. This shape nicely frames any type of flower and works best with a worsted weight yarn.

Samia Yarn from Knit Picks

If you use the recommended crochet hook size (6.0mm), the leaf will measure about 5 inches long and 3 inches wide.

This pattern is easy but recommended for those who have some basic crochet experience. Let’s get started!

8. 13 sc, (2 sc), ch 3, (2 sc), 16 sc

I can get thru step 6 but as I start step 7 the tip disappears when I begin the HDC sequence. What am I missing/doing wrong? I love this pattern – it’s part of a gift for a friend.

    Thank you!

Hi! The tip of the leaf isn’t very obvious between step 6-7. Keep going! 🙂 The tip of the leaf becomes more pronounced in step 8 with the (2 sc), ch 3, (2 sc) sequence. Hope this helps!
